Smash Mouth comes to Orlando
New Years Eve is a time to celebrate in bringing in the New Year and no one else knows how to do like Universal Studios in sunny Orlando, Florida. Of course since we are going into December although it might still be sunny the weather might change for cooler temperatures. Nonetheless Universal Studios Orlando brings you Smash Mouth coming to Universal on December 31 to help bring in the New Years celebration.
Tickets right now through their website is at $119 per person which is cheap considering other venues such as Pleasure Island in downtown Disney that one year went for $300 just to get in the party celebration! So your probably wondering what you get for the $119? you ask? well for one you get in concert Smash Mouth as well as a full line of cuisines and dishes to choose from. The party starts at 8pm and runs all the way into the new year till 2am which is when the bar closes and last call for alcohol. The cuisines are all you can eat so you can feast on filet minot, jumbo shrimp, decadent desserts and a whole lot more just to start. You also get admission to seven night clubs with live entertainment and to help bring the new year in right a glass of champagne with a confetti burst as soon as the clock hits midnight!
Universal Studios in Orlando Florida is located just 15 minutes from the Orlando International Airport , MCO. The park itself has three hotels to choose from which are the Royal Pacific, Hard Rock, and the Portofino Bay Hotel. All within walking distance to Citywalk which is Universal’s prime celebration location and connects with Islands of Adventure and the older part of Universal Studios.
The Orlando area can get really busy during this time period so it is wise to book your reservations early , this also includes your transportation needs. If you are going to do car rental the best place is from the Orlando Airports first floor area ; however you should book it early. There are also plenty of other transportation services that can get you there , but again due to the large crowds that are expected its also best to book with them early so you are sure you will be able to get there.
Insurance Company Spying on You
Progressive has announced through television commercials in Florida of a device called Snapshot. The device is suppose to record your driving habits such as how hard you press on the brakes, time of day you are driving and how fast you are traveling. All of which can save drivers money by using the device and not getting into any vehicle accidents or is it a way of spying on you.
Progressive insurance of course denies such allegations; however a small device to be placed in your car to record your driving habit is just one step closer to ending your privacy as you know it. Of course the device at this current time is optional. You can choose to have it or not at this current time, but what is to stop them from actually making it a law. Transportation in Florida would greatly change as we know it or for that matter everywhere in the US. This would be especially true for the transportation service companies as well.
Luckily however its is not a requirement to have at this time which keeps big brother away for that much longer. That means that cost will be lower for all your transportation needs as well. That being said there is already camera devices being placed at all major intersections and even on the open roads which is especially true for Orlando and Port Canaveral.
Port Canaveral Street Party for New Years Eve
If you haven’t started any plans for this years New Years Eve your falling behind. Everywhere you go in Orlando or Port Canaveral for that matter New Years Eve is a big deal and can get expensive especially when you are wanting to go to Disney World to spend the holiday tradition. Some entry fees can get as expensive as $300 per person such as Pleasure Island in downtown disney during New Years Eve.
Another option is going to Port Canaveral’s Rock the Port celebration which is located 40 minutes away from the Orlando Airport, MCO. The place where most of the major cruise ships depart such as Disney’s Dream, Carnival Sensation, and Freedom Of the Seas by Royal Caribbean. It is estimated that there will be around 20 bands playing and a parade that will go around the port. The festivities will begin on December 31, 2011 and into the New Year ,2012! If your planning on traveling from the Disney or Universal area then it will take about an hours to get to the port though.
If your planning on cruising on one of the cruise ships out of Port Canaveral around this time period then your in luck. Next door to Port Canaveral is Cape Canaveral which has several hotels in the area which include Country Inn and Suites and Radisson hotel which are the closest ones to the port.
Casino in Port Canaveral?
Port Canaveral’s CEO J. Stanley Payne has been looking into bringing a casino to its port in order to increase revenue for the port. Its really no secret that they are already making an estimated $50,000 each time one of the cruise ships comes into port along with revenue from transportation service companies that purchase permits through the ports authority and other shady deals. The newest one you ask?, to build a casino , hotel, and conference center.
Port Canaveral owns some property located off of Banana river near the 528 which is a potential site for the hotel and casino. The property is said to be 26 acres big which could also include a conference center for the hotel with plenty of room for other activities.
Of course the whole idea is still up in the air as it still has to be put to a vote. Gambling already does exist in Orlando only offshore with the Sterling Casino that goes out to sea. This will be the first on land casino for Port Canaveral. There is no telling what might happen as J. Stanley Payne says he gets several informal inquires several times per year as this might lead to third party entertainment offerings as well. This of course will be put to a vote by the authority figures.
The talk of having a gambling area also has Rob Varley which is the executive director of the Space Coast Office of Tourism also buzzing about setting up a location. One prime location he is talking about could be at the intersection of Interstate 95 and the 528 Beachline. This would be a major intersection as it brings several people from all over the state.
Cost Go Up at Port Canaveral
Port Canaveral the place where most of us go to embark on our cruise experience of a lifetime with such ships as the Disney Dream and Carnivals Sensation; however for the longest time the port has been complaining about not making enough revenue. Nevermind that they are already making an estimated $50,000 US dollars each time they come into Port Canaveral or the fact that they are making revenue from each and every transportation company that picks up from the port every year. They already also make revenue from the parking lot structures they have for travelers whom leave their vehicle on their property. Recently they also made a deal with one taxicab company to be the only one allowed to pick up anyone they please and forcing out all other taxi cab companies without pre-arranged transportation for sum of $200,000 for one year. Even the Chief of Police Joe Hellebrand is in on the action of being paid off to keep quiet.
Even with all that is happening now the Port Authorities do it again by now charging each transportation company that comes in to drop off and pick up a sum of $3-$10. These fees of course will be handed down to the clients of these transportation companies that use their services which forces these services to drop their prices even lower to be able to conduct more business. The biggest question is if they will be able to continue being in business as profits fall so will their services to Port Canaveral.
Of course this is only part of the problem adding cost to the traveling public it also creates a bottleneck and more traffic to build up as everyone that needs to be picked up from Port Canaveral will have to wait even longer for their transportation companies to come in and pick them up. This is due to the fact that there will be only one entrance into the port for everyone to come through for both public and commercial use. It is not known at this time if their will also be a charge for the general public to come in and pick up as of yet. It is not even known if this will even work out for the port as it will create a lot of complaints from both the general traveling public and the transportation services.
Orlando Gas Station Charging $5 a gallon
An Orlando gas station just north of the Orlando airport MCO has been charging for the past few years five dollars a gallon for their regular fuel; however that may be coming to an end as the city of Orlando is fighting the gas station owners of Air Strip to warn drivers of lower prices elsewhere. To the locals it is known that just down the street a few more blocks is a seven eleven gas station that is only charging three dollars and change. A lot of folks don’t realize that they are being burned at the pump at this station and should be forewarned especially in these troubled times we are facing.
As you can see from the photograph to the left the gas station is really not that busy as the only ones this station seems to catch are tourist that do not know the area to well. Just north of the station two blocks away is a seven eleven gas station and to the west is another station off of Conroy road.
As it gets more and more expensive to drive, transportation cost will end up going up , but to be paying five dollars a gallon now is just plain crazy.
Fuel prices are expected to go up to five dollars a gallon by next year 2012. They did seem to go down for a short period of time, but look like they are beginning to climb once again. No where in the country not even in New York you will find anyone paying anything close to five dollars per gallon and if you find yourself at one of these pumps , be sure to ask a local where a cheaper station is located. You’ll be surprised to find one not to far away.
There are plenty of transportation companies to choose from within the orlando , Port Canaveral, Sanford, and Disney areas to choose from and you will find a friendly smile in every case. Leave the driving to someone else and save yourself some money in the long run.
Christmas the Way it Should Be
All too often you will hear Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas pretty much anywhere you go these days, but have you ever wondered why? Well one main reason according to some store managers is that they do not want to offend anyone by saying Merry Christmas in case they are atheist or agnostic, but whats to say about the religious folks and what the holiday of Christmas is really about? Well that has all changed in Orlando, Florida with one park called ” The Holy Land Experience” where they bring God and Jesus Christ back into the picture and the festivities.
Although Disney World, Universal Studios, other attractions, and retailers may not agree with the idea it hasn’t stopped the Holy Land in sunny Orlando, Florida from changing its mind. After all they not only celebrate his birthday once a year, they celebrate 365 days a year by teaching the story of Jesus Christ and the bible.
You will find for that the Holy Land Experience will be celebrating our lord and saviors birthday this year unlike any other park by first simply mentioning his name. This of course is unheard of in any other attraction in the Orlando area. So if your Christian or Catholic for that matter it would be a great idea for you and your family to visit the Holy Land this year for its festivity celebrations.
Since it is Christmas you can expect for the theme park to celebrate Jesus Christ’s birthday. The park will be closed on December 25 in order for the employees to celebrate his birthday on this day with their family’s. Although it will be closed it will continue operation on the next day December 26 and also on the day before. So get the kids and have them enjoy a day with Jesus Christ himself and celebrate the festivities this year at the Holy Land Experience. You will find the park to have great shows to entertain the entire family.
Transportation to the park is approximately 15 minutes away from the Orlando airport, MCO off of I-4 and Conroy Road area.
Parade Coming to Universal Studios
Universal Studios brings the Macy’s Day Parade which is actually celebrated originally for Thanksgiving day. The story goes that back in the 1920′s the Macy’s department stores employees were first generation immigrants that came from abroad. They wanted to show their appreciation of being Americans and wanted to celebrate the way they did in their own countries. They all decided to do a parade in which they all dressed up different colorful costumes and later Macy’s got in on the action and created floats. The Macy’s day parade was then born and has been celebrated every year since. Employees and professional entertainers would march from 145th street in Harlem to Macy’s flagship store on 34th street. Due to the large crowds that would form in over a quarter of a million people Macy’s decided to hold the even every year ever since.
The parade was suspended during world war II from 1942-1944 for manufacturing of rubber and the large need of helium due to the war efforts. It did resume once again in 1945 after the war though and hasn’t stopped since.
Universal Studios has been known to bring the movies to life and now they have done it by bringing part of our history to life by continuing our american tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving day the same way they did only with a bit more added. The best part is that the parade will continue not only on Thanksgiving but also on Christmas day and New Years as well. Its about the only place you will find snow in sunny Orlando , Florida.
This year just like the last few years will be a busy one so be sure to travel to Orlando Florida as soon as possible and don’t miss the party! Transportation from the Orlando airport MCO to Universal Studios theme park and area hotels is only 15 minutes away. Universal Studios has three hotel resorts of their own to choose from which are the Portofino Bay Hotel, Royal Pacific, and the well known Hard Rock Hotel.
